TO LIVE
It is so hard to re-learn how to smile
A hard road to travel on all the while
Rain and tears mix moisture on your face
While your mind screams “Find a place.”
So glad to be back home in The World
And seeing your beloved flag unfurled
Horrified as the flames lick at the stars
Seeing the white blacken as fire
scars
The symbol you lost brothers to defend
Has my country gone around the bend?
Did I deserve to be spit upon that day?
Was I so evil I need be driven far away?
More than thirty years ago and yet still
I am sickened by what they said “Kill, kill
Killer of children, women and innocents.”
What can I do to set up my own defense
I have been tried and convicted in their mind
As have those who left their lives behind
Only you my brothers can know real peace
That I will not find until at last I will cease
To Live…
