THOUSAND MILE EYES
He’s back from a war in a foreign land
He’s seen more than he can understand
Suffering and cruelty was on every hand
Nothing had gone on the way he planned
He’s got thousand mile eyes
He’s seen more in his oh so short life
Carrying his gun, grenade and knife
Than he could tell his parents or wife
He went in the middle of the war’s strife
He saw with thousand mile eyes
He won’t go back to that place of sin
He cannot live on that hard edge again
Being home has been the vision he’s in
No more of war, or death he’s dreamin’
Seen with those thousand mile eyes.
God in Heaven, please forgive them all
The soldiers who were picked to die and fall
The worst is for those who stood so tall
And came back home for their last call
They all have thousand mile eyes
Forgive me if I seem more than a little insane
I’ve been in an evil place that is filled with pain
I’ve traveled so far to escape my soul’s stain
But memories I have still must control my brain
And give me thousand mile eyes.
