SORROW LIES NOT IN THE COFFIN
Sorrow lies not in the coffin, It lies in the living mind, In the veins of gentler people Whose hearts are thus entwined. For when sorrow lies in the coffin Helplessness has already devoured, The emotions that cultivate sadness, For hope has been overpowered. Tis better for the soldier to die With a bullet that severs the vein, Than to waste in the merciless Sun, As Hunger eats away at the brain. For then the coffin is a heavenly place, And life is a terrible pain.
