New Year's Eve 2009
I see his eyes widen
And hear his quick intake of breath
I know he is thinking back
Of impending death
He saddens and sighs
And relaxes some
His eyes look to the skies
For the fireworks to come
It is only a celebration
Of the New Year
Not a firefight long ago
