Memorial Day Weekend

As you made your salad..

Flipping your burgers with ease

Relaxing in this days` breeze

All impatiently waiting to gorge

Did any of you think of me

Freezing my feet at Valley Forge

It IS my Day…you see

When you packed your kids

And picnic basket in your van

And headed down to the sea

Did you stop and think of me

When you stood upon the beach in awe

Did you stop and think of me

For I died upon a shore called Omaha

When you relaxed on your patio

With your glass of iced tea

Did you stop and think of me

I trekked the sweaty jungles of Nam

I fought and died there

Because I was true...you see

Did you stop and think of me

When you attended

The great Memorial Day White Sale

At the local J C Penny's

Did you stop and think of me

When you bought your white sheets

Did you think of the white bandages that covered me

When will you ever stop and think of me

Understand it is my Day today

For I fought Hitler all of the way

I died upon the Frozen Chosin

I chased and captured Hussein

I lost my limbs in Vietnam

I was with Sherman pushing to the Sea

Please...please...pause and remember me...
