Innocence – Rebirth

Who remembers the actual date?

Whose careless hand sealed its fate?

Was it a stolen kiss, a game of chance,

Or bodies pressed too close at a dance?

Perhaps the horny hand of War

Washed it away in a wave of gore,

And opened up a ghastly door

To realities never imagined before.

Sock Hops have been replaced by Raves,

And babes are giving birth to babes;

Crack takes the place of a stolen ‘smoke’;

Assaults on YouTube are seen as a joke.

Who bears the blame? Where were we,

The guardians who're supposed to see

That Enlightened Experience takes its place

While Innocence slips away with grace?

But all is not lost, have we not yet learned

With each new generation, Innocence returns?

Though it’s quicker now to don Blasé's guise,

Innocence still lingers in children’s eyes.
